It takes time…

Posted by madelinesmind on January 6, 2009

We live in an ever increasingly instant gratification society, over the last decade we have had an exponential amount of loans, credit cards, by now pay later and other such financial carrots dangled at us as part of the “you can have it now” ethos that has taken over our world. Recently we have seen that this mentality has come crashing down around our shoulders and is fashionably referred to as the “Credit Crunch”.

When I was a child, it took time, hard work, effort and patience to make a house a home and fill it with the mod cons most home buyers expect today as standard. It took grit to afford to go on holiday and come back without owing a penny. Business took time to bed in and build so that it could be profitable and appreciated by it’s customers and suppliers instead of the set it up overnight and make a million in a philosophy that often privales in thetime modern board room.

What I have learnt in recent years goes against the modern norm… it takes time. It’s taken time for David and I to build Milestone and we know that it will take much more for it to be the sustainable business we want it to be. It’s taken time for us to appreciate that it “little by little” is far more powerful than “all in one go”. It takes time to build a positive reputation and it builds time for others to recognise it.

I sat proudly observing my husband today as he beamed because he was featured in “The Voice” Newspaper as one of the movers and shakers to watch in 2009. He has worked tirelessly with young people to raise their confidence and attainment levels and has networked constantly at the sacrifice of family time to build contacts who could help him gain access to the more lucrative corporate work that buoys up the work he does in education.  To see him featured was a real priviledge but not something that has come over night, it has taken time and it will take more to really get where we want to go.

There is a phrase in the bible that says “Let patience have her perfect work” and every day I am learning that this is exactly what I need to do. That with patience, endeavour and a giving spirit over time all things are possible.

So go ahead… take your time.

Thailand: He’s gone again

Posted by madelinesmind on March 13, 2008

Well he’s gone again, David has found himself in Phuket, Thailand at the i-genius World Summit where he is speaking and facilitating and yet again I am let home with the babies!!! This does feel a little bit like de ja vous since last year he was swanning about at the TED Global Conference in Tanzania.

Yet again, he’s in a beautiful hotel, with amazing scenery and as he puts it “5 minutes from the beach and 2 minutes from the pool”.

I am really very proud of him David is an outstanding speaker. I can say that not because he’s my husband but because he is, he’ll tell you himself that I am his biggest critic and ruthless at that. But he really has that something and when he stands in front of an audience he tends to have them eating out of his hand.

Anyway enough of the….I’m off to start planning my world excursion for next year and he can stay home!!!!

I left my voice in Legoland

Posted by madelinesmind on September 17, 2007

This weekend was a busy one but exciting too as on Sunday we took the girls to Legoland and it was a first for all of us.

I haven’t laughed so much in years and boy did I scream, it’s not that the rights where long or even overtly exciting. It was the sheer pleasure of being out with my family in a different environment, doing different things and having fun. My voice is completely shot!! Last time my voice was this bad was on a music day at a church in edmonton that I used to attend, its been quite some years now. I led out sang literally from morning till night and loved every minute of it. This loosing of my voice also reminds me of days when I was a basket ball groupie who followed the Leicester Riders dilligently with team members like Lonie Leggett!! Oh Wow!! It also reminds me of church socials where games like, Rythm, On the river on the bank, The Prince of Wales, One and Twenty and other such games of old where played. Gosh young people really miss out today!! Church socials was were my love of Bar Soccer (otherwise known as table football) was born, Ahhh those where the days.

I am now as horse as can be a relegated to giggling. Although I’m training at a School in Barnet on Wednesday, unable to make sales calls,  chat to my girlfriends or adequately respond to my kids I am actually as exceptionally happy. I lost my voice in Legoland having an absolutely marvelous time with the people I love the most…my husband and children. What better way to loose your voice!!

Thank you Legoland I had a fab time!

Filming again

Posted by madelinesmind on August 25, 2007

Well, Dave is off again to Glasgow filming for Channel 4 again. It’s wonderful to see how his dream to be on television has turned into a reality and just goes to show that how when you verbalize what you want to achieve things start to happen. I’ve watched my husband really grow over the last year, focusing in on what he wants to achieve and putting himself in the right place to ensure that when the opportunity arrives he is able to receive it.

Dave says that filming is tiring, but that the satisfaction and enjoyment he gets from it is immense. I always knew that he was right for TV as he really is an excellent presenter and I hope that this experience sets the platform for more such work. When you are doing what you love and enjoy it, it adds value to every aspect of your life and so me and the kids are lapping up the value of a satisfied and happy husband and father.

So Dave as you face the camera again we hope you have a fab time!

Missing David but very excited!

Posted by madelinesmind on June 4, 2007

Well, Dave is now firmly settled in Tanzania! I am sooo happy for him, he’s rubbing noses with some of the world’s best in all fields and having a great time. It’s strange though, I know that I am not supposed to be there this time around but I am missing him like crazy.

He’s been filming away for the last few weeks but been around at the weekends that wasn’t so bad, but I suppose if I can call him on his mobile then it doesn’t seem like he’s gone too far. But I can’t this time around, he’s in a hotel in the middle of Tanzania, Africa!!

So here’s what I’m missing!

Such a lovely room and whilst he thought he had to share he now has it all to himself!! Darn it!

Look at the wood on that floor!! (OK, I’ll show you some of the conference then!)

What a platform to change the world from!

Dave with Larry Brilliant (on the right) the Executive Director of Google.org and the man who has helped the blind to see and has been instrumental in eradicating small pox in India. Wow what a place to hang out! With such amazing people! You go Dave show them your magnificence!

Needless to say, whilst missing David terribly I am more so proud of this man who has a passion for life and people. David has worked hard to get here and he is where is deserves to be. Not because he is my husband, but because he is a magnificent man, with a brilliant mind, a willingness to listen, a heart for people and enough humour to change the world.

You go babe!

TED Global 2007 watch out Dave’s about!

Posted by madelinesmind on May 17, 2007

I am soooooo proud!! TED is one of those things that you can’t just pay your money and turn up to, you have to be invited! So last December David was invited to go to TEDGlobal in Tanzania, Africa. He was chuffed, but when he realised the costs that were involved he decided that maybe it wasn’t for him this year. However, he applied for a fellowship on the off chance something might happen. Well it surely did!! Yesteday David received confirmation that he has been offered a fellowship to go to TED which means that all he has to do is find himself somewhere in Africa and they will sort out the rest!

Well I know for sure that God is looking out for us!! This events brings together the best minds and people of influence in order to exact change in the world and as a result change truly does happen. David gets to be a part of that change and raises his profile and important work he does in motivating young people to excellence.

2007 is definitely our year! Well done babe…

….Right! Anyone got an old bath tub that they aren’t using, something quite sturdy that could get us across the Atlantic!

I’m so proud

Posted by madelinesmind on February 27, 2007

Yesterday my hubby got confirmation that he’d got the job as a copresenter on a new TV show due on the air waves in August.
He vowed that this year he would get himself on TV and without too much effort (but a definitely some finger nail biting) he has made it.

I wish him all the best in this and hope that this is just the beginning of an outstanding career in television!

I’m sooooo proud!

My Rock

Posted by madelinesmind on December 7, 2006

I’ve spent the last 18 years fo my life with a guy who carries the by line “Mr Magnificent” We’ve been together since we were 19 and have been married for over 11 years. These last 6 months or so of my life have been really difficult for many reasons, not least because my mum has Alzhiemer’s disease which tears me apart on a daily basis.

My Mr Magnificent has been by rock! Sometimes we don’t appreciate what we have when we see it day in and day out and so today I want to show my appreciation for a man who has supported me in everything I have ever done, strived to always have my best interests at heart, told me I was the best when I didn’t feel like I was and has held me everytime I have cried uncontrollably through all that life has dealt me, especially in recent months.

I just want to let you know that there is value in marriage, in an intimate relationship that seeks the best for both parties. There is value in a companionship that is mutual where real love is shown regardless of the circumstances. My husband has always been by my side, even when I haven’t noticed him there or appreciated his presence. To be honest I don’t know a better man and those who know me, know that I have no problems saying if he’s an idiot!! (Well OK sometimes he is!) But the bottom line is that I have a truly magnificent husband who is in tune with me and my needs. Ladies and Gents hope is not lost, if you are willing to work your partner, husband/wife or what ever you choose to call the love of your life can be and often is your rock. Sometimes you just have to look around you and recognise it (regardless of the dirty dishes!)
