The don’t make songs like this any more!

Posted by madelinesmind on January 24, 2008

I woke up this morning with a few bars of this song in my head and called around my sisters to see if any of them could remember it. One did so here it is enjoy!

My grandfather’s clock was too large for the shelf
So it stood ninety years on the floor
It was taller by half than the old man himself
Though it weighed not a pennyweight more

It was bought on the morn of the day he was born
It was always his treasure and pride
And it stopped short, never to go again, when the old man died

In watching its pendulum swing to and fro
Many hours he spent as a boy
And in childhood and manhood the clock seemed to know
And it shared both his sorrow and joy

And it struck twenty-four when he entered the door
With a blooming and beautiful bride
And it stopped short, never to go again, when the old man died

Ninety years without slumbering, tick, tock, tick, tick
It’s life seconds numbering, tick tock, tick, tock
And it stopped short, never to go again, when the old man died

My grandfather said that of those he could hire
Not a servant so faithful he found
It wasted no time and it had one desire
At the end of the week to be wound

And it stayed in its place, not a frown upon its face
And it’s hands never hung by it’s side
And it stopped short, never to go again, when the old man died

Now it rang an alarm in the still of the night
An alarm that for years had been dumb
We knew that his spirit was pluming in flight
That his hour of departure had come

Still the clock kept its time with a soft and muffled chime
As we silently stood by his side
And it stopped short, never to go again, when the old man died

Ninety years without slumbering, tick, tock, tick, tick
It’s life seconds numbering, tick tock, tick, tock
And it stopped short, never to go again, when the old man died

Facebook Addiction

Posted by madelinesmind on January 10, 2008

It is offical I am sure it must be… Facebook is one of the most addictive online networks going. You can be on their for hours without even batting an eye lid. Is it the range of applications, interaction, profile creation, notifications, messages, alerts, groups? I really don’t know!! There is so much to do see and share, games to play, snowballs to through and much, much more. I have been on a range of networks especially over the last 5 years and I can truly say that Facebook is most definitely the one that gets top marks for me. Whilst it takes a little while to understand “Just What the hell is going on here” I can truly say, Facebook rocks.

However, it is addictive, I introduced on of my friends to face book and no kidding for around 48 hours straight (OK she did sleep just a little) she was on it and wasn’t coming off, morning, noon and night!!) On some of the applications whilst I may have clocked up a few thousand points others are in the millions! Where on earth do they find the time???

I left my voice in Legoland

Posted by madelinesmind on September 17, 2007

This weekend was a busy one but exciting too as on Sunday we took the girls to Legoland and it was a first for all of us.

I haven’t laughed so much in years and boy did I scream, it’s not that the rights where long or even overtly exciting. It was the sheer pleasure of being out with my family in a different environment, doing different things and having fun. My voice is completely shot!! Last time my voice was this bad was on a music day at a church in edmonton that I used to attend, its been quite some years now. I led out sang literally from morning till night and loved every minute of it. This loosing of my voice also reminds me of days when I was a basket ball groupie who followed the Leicester Riders dilligently with team members like Lonie Leggett!! Oh Wow!! It also reminds me of church socials where games like, Rythm, On the river on the bank, The Prince of Wales, One and Twenty and other such games of old where played. Gosh young people really miss out today!! Church socials was were my love of Bar Soccer (otherwise known as table football) was born, Ahhh those where the days.

I am now as horse as can be a relegated to giggling. Although I’m training at a School in Barnet on Wednesday, unable to make sales calls,  chat to my girlfriends or adequately respond to my kids I am actually as exceptionally happy. I lost my voice in Legoland having an absolutely marvelous time with the people I love the most…my husband and children. What better way to loose your voice!!

Thank you Legoland I had a fab time!

I’m hooked!!

Posted by madelinesmind on February 15, 2007

Mads beats Dave yet again!
My husband introduced me to this game and I am hooked. He started off with a score of 1400 and since I am soooo competitive I set out to beat him and beat him good I did!! So if you’re feeling a little bored or want something to really get you going go to and see if you what score you can secure, experience the moles and the sandpits and have a good laugh as Boris attempts to go as far as he can!

Wife Coaching

Posted by madelinesmind on December 15, 2006

“Demand More Out Of Your Wife!” is the first things that you read go to the Wife Coaching website and it’s one of the funniest things read in a while(Maybe I need to get out more often)

Geraint ,a well seasoned wife, shows you that you can “Get more out of your wife” through his successful wife coaching programme. It’s a hilarious tongue in cheek take on life coaching. If you’re a husband this is most definitely the programme for you!!

Go take a look and make sure you’re volume is on. I’m looking forward to seeing Geraint reach the masses as he helps the world’s men put their wives back in balance. Geraint just has to write a book.

Funnily enough there are number of serious coaches offering this service for real! Somehow, I think that Geraint my just be a tad more successful, as a wife myself he surely has my vote!

I can’t wait for the merchandise…can you imagine!

Bonfire Night!

Posted by madelinesmind on November 4, 2006

Well, since I moved to Watford some years ago, I’ve always tried to go to a fire works event on the Saturday nght closest to Bonfire Night. And so tonight I found myself wrapped up to keep warm, jumper upon jumper and then my coat, scarf, hat and gloves as well and wearing totes in side of my boots to keep my feet walm. I can’t lie I felt like someone had placed me in a straight jacket I could barely bend my arms for all the padding I was wearing. My kids were rapped just as tight as I and were excited to go and see the attractions.

So there must have been at least 5,000 people in Cassiobury Park and for what? 18 minutes of pyrotechnics which is no where near the calibre of somewhere like Universal Mediterranea(Spain)extravaganza. Even still we stood there and we “ahhhed”, “woooed” and “ohhhed.” Don’t get me wrong I’m not complaining, but what is it about Fireworks that makes us so committed to watching them? That we stand in the coldest of temperates to experience gun power going off for a few minutes only to leave the air filled with smoke and for us to wake up to fog the next morning? What is it that makes us switch off the lights and look out of the windows at the bravery of others lighting gun power so that we can look on in awe at the flashing lights?

I can’t lie I love Bonfire night and so do my kids, it’s a great time for family and friends and a great opportunity to stand out in the cold!! So do you love it or hate it? My friend, who comes with us to Cassiobury every year, can’t stand fireworks but comes for her kids and for the fellowship that we enjoy. Is it a great time out for you or do you rent a video and shut racket out?
